Reach Out

December 30, 2004 · No Comments

I am absolutely stunned by the magnitude of the devastation going on in Asia as a result of the tsunami right now.  I keep trying to get my head around it.  Imagine, your life, with its ups and downs and highs and lows and day to day frustrations, challenges and joys.  Now multiply that by 114,000, one hundred and fourteen thousand.  I can’t… It’s just too big. There are no words.  It’s about twelve times the poulation of the town I grew up in.  It’s more people than I will ever know in my life time.

Half the population of Car Nicobar is missingThe earth wobbles on her axis.  Days permanently shortened by a fraction of a second.  The map of South Asia permanently changed.

So, I’m throwing a drop in the bucket.  I urge you to do the same. Per my mom, the knower of all things, I am recommending Americares, a good organization to go through, as their overhead is, comparatively, extremely low, and more of your donation goes to the actual relief effort than some other organizations).  Important note:  Their website is wonky right now on the donation page, so I’ve removed the link because that page IS NOT WORKING.  Call 1-800-486-HELP.  Let it ring, because they seem to be overwhelmed right now, but they WILL answer.

Linda over at Frolic and Detour is quite likely my favorite online writer, and you should seek her out.  And this piece, posted today, about the latest in the genre of "How to Get and Hold onto A Man for the Hip Single Woman" is so on the money that you should drop everything and go read it.  Immediately.

YIKES!

One of my favorite hobbies is to worry about things I can’t control.  If someone offered a post graduate program in it, I would be well on my way to a PhD.

So, you can imagine my joy at today’s news regarding the recent tsunami.
